Word Finder
A full word search engine: find words containing certain letters, starting or ending with anything, matching a pattern, or fitting an exact length.
Combine as many fields as you need. Use ? as a blank rack tile; in a pattern, ? . - and _ mean one unknown position.
Search by available letters, a positional pattern, prefix, suffix, contained letters or exact length.
Quick answer
How do I find a word with several constraints?
Enter the letters available to you, then combine only the filters you know: exact length, starting letters, ending letters, required letters or a positional pattern. The finder returns words that satisfy every active condition.
Worked example
Input: Letters: TRAIN · starts with T · length 5
Result: TRAIN
Rack, length, start, end, contains and pattern constraints are combined, not searched independently.
What this tool handles
This utilities tool focuses on English words, Letter combinations, Word puzzles.
- Combine rack and pattern constraints
- Filter by exact length
- Search by prefix, suffix or contained letters
- Use question marks for unknown positions
Combine filters without over-constraining the search
Start with the fact you trust most. A crossword pattern is stronger than a guessed contained letter; a fixed rack is stronger than a possible prefix. Add one condition at a time so you can see which assumption removes the answer.
Prefix and suffix filters describe the edge of a word, while “contains” can match anywhere. A positional pattern is the most precise because every typed letter is tied to one square.
When to use Word Finder instead of an unscrambler
Use the general unscrambler when your only evidence is a set of loose letters. Use Word Finder when the answer must also fit a length, pattern or affix. If every supplied letter must be used exactly once, Anagram Solver is the narrower tool.

Frequently asked questions
Can I search without entering rack letters?
Yes. Leave the rack empty and use a length, prefix, suffix, contained letters or pattern to search the whole dictionary.
What does a question mark mean in a pattern?
A question mark stands for exactly one unknown letter. The pattern c??ne therefore searches only five-letter words beginning with C and ending in NE.
Can the same letter be used twice?
Only when the rack supplies it twice, a wildcard supplies the extra copy, or you are searching the whole dictionary without a rack constraint.
Why do several filters return no results?
All filters are cumulative. Remove the least certain condition first, then add constraints back one at a time.
