Quick answer

How does the Scrabble Word Finder work?

A Scrabble word finder takes the tiles on your rack and returns every word you can play, sorted by Scrabble score so the highest-value play is at the top. It supports blank tiles and lets you filter by the letters already on the board.

Worked example

Input: AEINRST

Result: NASTIER, RETAINS, RETINAS, STAINER

Results are ranked with Scrabble tile values; the board and premium squares still determine the best actual move.

What this tool handles

This game tool focuses on Scrabble, Letter tiles, Word scoring.

  • Find rack plays with blank tiles
  • Calculate Scrabble tile scores
  • Filter by length and board hooks
  • Identify seven-tile candidates

Rack management beats raw score

Strong players do not simply play their highest-scoring option each turn. They think about what stays on the rack. Dumping four consonants for 18 points and keeping AEIO is usually worse than taking 14 points and keeping a balanced remainder, because the next turn is set up rather than salvaged.

The usual guidance is to keep a rough three-to-four vowel-consonant split, avoid holding duplicate letters, and treat the S and the blank as premium assets worth saving for a bingo rather than spending for a few extra points.

The words that matter most

The two-letter words carry disproportionate weight, because they are what lets you play parallel to an existing word and score it in both directions. There are around 100 of them, and learning the list is the single highest-return study any Scrabble player can do.

After that come the J, Q, X and Z words, and the Q-without-U words, which turn a stuck rack into a scoring turn.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the highest-scoring Scrabble word?

Enter your rack and the results are ordered by point value, highest first. Bear in mind that the board matters as much as the rack: a lower-scoring word that reaches a triple-word square usually beats a higher-scoring word that does not.

How do I enter a blank tile?

Type a question mark. The finder tries every letter in that position. Remember that a blank scores zero points itself, so the tool reflects that in the totals.

What is a bingo in Scrabble?

A bingo is playing all seven tiles from your rack in a single turn, which earns a 50-point bonus on top of the word score. Filter the results to seven-letter words to see whether your rack has one.

Which dictionary does this use?

The site uses an open English lexicon of more than 270,000 words rather than a proprietary tournament word list. For casual play it is more permissive than the official lists; in sanctioned tournament play, the official dictionary for your region is the authority.

What are the highest-scoring letters in Scrabble?

Q and Z are worth 10 points each, J and X are worth 8, and K is worth 5. The catch is that these letters appear in far fewer words, so holding them is often a liability rather than an advantage.
