About UnscrambleWords
A fast, free, private word unscrambler built on an open English dictionary.
What this is
UnscrambleWords is a set of word tools built around one idea: that a word unscrambler should be instant, complete and private. Enter your letters and you get every word they spell — with a definition, a part of speech, both game scores and a full anagram list attached to each one.
What makes it different
- Nineteen solvers, one dictionary. Scrabble, Words With Friends, Wordle, anagrams, crosswords, Jumble, Boggle, Spelling Bee, Text Twist and hangman each get a tool tuned to their rules, all drawing on the same 270,000-word index.
- Correct scoring per game. Scrabble and Words With Friends assign different values to the same tiles. Each tool uses the right table, so the top-ranked play is genuinely the top play for the game you are in.
- Results ranked by familiarity. Words are ordered using corpus frequency data, so the ones you actually recognise appear first.
- Nothing is sent anywhere. The dictionary and the search engine both run in your browser.
Sources and attribution
The word list is derived from open English lexicons. Definitions, parts of speech and frequency data come from WordNet, a lexical database developed at Princeton University and released for free use.
